How green is your organisation’s bank? Is your pension supporting fossil fuels? Did you know that choosing the right financial partners can greatly reduce your carbon footprint? This session explores how financial choices impact the environment, showing how informed decisions can make a huge difference in reducing your collective carbon footprint. The Kent Music team share their journey to greener finances.

Peter Bolton

Kent Music

After a degree in Music at Cardiff University and postgraduate study at the Royal Northern College of Music, Peter Bolton started a career in arts management in 1985. His early career was spent with various festivals in the UK and abroad (including as a Production Assistant at the Bernstein 70th birthday concert in Tanglewood, USA) before a stint as Tour Manager for The Academy of Ancient Music. He has been the Music Officer for Southern Arts Board, Concert Hall Manager for the Turner Sims Concert Hall in Southampton and Chief Executive & Artistic Director of Norfolk & Norwich Festival. From 2004 – 2008 he ran his own business, Ovation providing consultancy services to arts organisations throughout England. In September 2008 he took up the post of Chief Executive of Kent Music, which is also the Hub Lead Organisation for Music Education in Kent & Medway. When he’s not working Peter can be found on a bicycle or trying to maintain some sort of standard as a clarinet player.

Ruth Roberts

Kent Music

Ruth Roberts joined Kent Music as Senior Leader, Operations, in September 2022, following a long career as a primary school teacher and headteacher. Throughout her time in education, she held various leadership roles, including Music Subject Lead. As an Advanced Skills Teacher, Ruth organised a highly successful annual Primary Schools Music Festival and a conference for over 150 attendees. She also taught on the undergraduate teacher training programme at Canterbury Christ Church University, where she earned her Master’s in Primary Education, and developed curriculum resources for a previous version of the Kent Music website. Ruth has a longstanding interest in sustainability and has implemented numerous carbon reduction measures both at work and at home. She currently leads the Kent Music Environment Group, which regularly reviews the organisation’s sustainability plan and explores ways to promote sustainable practices within the team.
