The Royal Opera House Goes Back to School: Partnership working with the Royal Opera House and the United Learning Schools Group

  • 22nd November 2019
  • 10:20am - 11:00am
  • Main Hall

The Royal Opera House and United Learning present a session on partnership and collaborative working using their recent Carmen project as a case study. 70 teachers from 50 schools in the United Learning Schools Group received the ROH’s certified CPD training with additional support from The Voices Foundation. These teachers used the Create and Sing resources to deliver the dramatic-singing program, accessed via the ROH Digital Learning Platform to over 3000 children. The project culminated with 1500 children from across the UK performing their version of Bizet’s Carmen with English Pocket Opera Company at the Copperbox Arena, Olympic Park. This is an example of what can be achieved with strong partnerships; gaining from economies of scale to produce a high-quality experience for teachers and students alike. By focusing on building teachers’ pedagogical skills, the project will live on in classrooms up and down the country.
